Hooray!

The main Avengery bit of it was the odd masked villain, quite striking-looking and weird in the Tele-Snaps.

I suppose the incongruous toy department covering deadly goings-on is a foreshadowing of "Death at Bargain Prices" too.

Today is the 60th birthday of Tunnel of Fear - an espionage story centring around a Southend fun fair. As Alan Hayes noted in his book, the series has clearly swung in Macnee's direction and Hendry must have realised he'd picked the wrong part.

The usual updated synopsis, new cast photos and screen grabs plus a smattering of trivia to boot.

in regards to Macnee and Hendry, I don't think it matter to Ian, all that much, as he had designs on a movie career..and was planning to leave as soon as he was able...then again, it would have been interesting to see how each role would have continued to evolve...as such, Mrs. Gale, would have never happened, per say ..

The Far Distant Dead are certainly that, sixty years later, but Dr Keel's romp across Mexico and France gets an update and banner for the forum today nonetheless!

Sixty years since they tried to Kill the King!
A story of political intrigue and duplicity, starring a stellar, diverse cast.
Who was the greatest villain of the piece?

This is the last episode for a while, The Avengers... returns on December 9th - so I might have to do something different with the banner in the meantime!

An excellent, intriguing episode with a novel twist. If only "Trap", some 16 years later had been as caring for its far-eastern characters! Or half as well-written.

It's amazing, isn't it, that 1961 had a heavily Asian cast for this episode but in 1977 you have Terry Wood as Soo Choy - and Ronald Lacey as Hong Kong Harry in 1976! (Although neither are as bad as the yellowface guards in Room Without a View).

The 70s were bloody terrible. I hope that the Asian actors in Britain were already booked up in more gainful employment (though I think Andy Ho from Kill The King got sacked from Dr Who in 1971, because allegedly he was "too wooden" or "couldn't perform his lines" and was replaced by Kristopher Kum who was fairly good... at least Burt Kwouk became a national treasure early on, for Kato in the Pink Panther films but also in Harry Hill's shows, and Last of the Summer Wine - also brilliant in The Sentimental Agent soon after his first Avengers appearance, he really added to the joie de vivre of that series).

There's also an "oriental" manservant to Nigel Green in a colour Rigg episode - the comic book one? The Winged Avenger? Who is played by Tutte Lemkow. Very unconvincing. They can't all be "eccentric" Caucasians pretending to be Asian, even if Lemkow played a one-eyed Chinese bandit in Dr Who in 1964.
