Diana Rigg's French Friends Remember

Post by unclefester »

As many know Diana Rigg loved France & the french & about the year 1998 purchased a home in France.

There is a YouTube video clip featuring 3 of her french friends discussing her time in France & her final days. It runs just over 3 minutes and is shot directly in front of her french home just days after her passing. It is very complimentary.

Copy the headline in this post to the YT search box to find the clip. I love it!!

Since watching the video several months ago, I've been trying to find the exact location of her former home in Mauvezin but without luck. Most of the town and surrounding roads feature Streetviews, which would help, but I've had no success. And to confuse things, Diana was quoted in 2018 as saying, "I want to find 'rural' and you can't in England, so I've found it in France, in Landes, in a village without a shop, just a handful of houses . . " However, Landes is a large district south of Bordeaux that doesn't include the town of Mauvezin, which is well west of Landes and much closer to Toulouse.

It's a small village, here it is: 10 Route de la Douze, Mauvezin-d'Armagnac 40240, France

Mauvezin-d'Armagnac is just inside the Eastern arm of the Landes departement, near the border with Gers - you may have been searching the wrong Mauvezin, Toulouse is a long way to the East.

Ah yes!

Very little change to the house it would seem between the two photos - the first one dating to September 2015 when Diana was still the owner/tenant and the later May 2021 image after her passing.

I will assume that her daughter Rachel sold the home but am certainly not privy to that information. Is there any way to confirm that?

With the Google Streetscape images provided of Diana's french home I took a tour of the neighbourhood.

Travel is very restricted but you can wind through a very few of the narrow streets.

I saw two signs - both about 12" by 16" attached to the corners of two different houses reading..."RUE GARBAGE" - both within a stones throw of Dame Diana's house!
