Do we have access to the photos of Ms. Rigg from that first photoshoot?dissolute wrote: ↑Fri Jan 26, 2024 1:48 am Opinion was divided as to the best candidate, Brian Clemens preferring Moira Redmond over Diana Rigg, Rosemary Martin and Shirley Eaton but Julian Wintle – or perhaps Howard Thomas – backed Rigg as she was a new face for the general public. Diana Rigg was announced as the new Mrs. Peel on December 14th with a television interview and photoshoot. The next day, the Daily Express reported she had turned down a £60,000, 3 year contract and instead committed to just one year. (Whether that figure was correct, being the equivalent of £477,560 a year in today’s terms, is open to debate, given that a year or so later Rigg demanded a pay rise as she was being paid less than the camera man.)
Just watched this on on my fancy blu-ray... there is so much more information in the clear, clean presentation... I even (unfortunately) saw a nose hair from the main baddie highlighted by the studio lights against the dark background and quite noticeable! In particular, the nonchalant manner that Steed and Peel meet the various difficult situations they are in must have been a breath of fresh air to viewers of the time, as it STILL seems ahead of this time too. Nice dodge with the brother of the dead man not being the main villain, but instead his wife was. Emma doing her stretches and sipping wine while nominally playing dead in the coffin was classic, as was Steed's nearly deadly date at the aquarium.
