I just noticed, while revising the episode today, that ALL of Geoffrey Ridsdale's medal ribbons are pinned upside down and back to front, so they're not in the correct order of precedence. Most ribbons are symmetrical so you wouldn't normally notice, but the DFC and War Medal 1939-45 are not, giving the game away. I'm sure it was a deliberate clue that something was wrong (or red herring) for the more observant viewers.

I have to say, having rewatched it, it is a master class in nuanced television. Every shot counts and every line, even though delivered sparsely in the first two acts, is meaningful and on point.
