Three years later and I've picked up the trail again!

By chance I noticed the car transport company "Circuit2Circuit" have this posted on their website:

Image

1966 Lotus

This car, a 1966 Lotus Elan was collected from Heathrow by Circuit2Circuit and delivered to Northants safely and descreetly in one of our covered car trailers.
This particular car was used in 'The Avengers' by Diana Rigg's character Emma Peel and was owned by Rigg for a period.

No date on the news item but the photograph appears to have been taken in Feb 2013.

Around the same time the user "scottyn" posted on a Lotus Forum that he is rebuilding the car:
http://www.lotustalk.com/forums/f165/sj ... s3-123588/

Unfortunately he/she hasn't posted again since. The car still is not registered with the DVLA but at least it appears it was back in the UK in early 2013.

Ian

I'm happy to see that this iconic car associated to The Avengers has been returned to the UK. Though as you indicate it would be nice to know the current state of play.

It does not look to be in bad condition from the photograph, although I realize that only so much detail can be made out. Further to this, I was never aware that Diana liked the Elan so much that she actually owned it at one point.

An article in the Hertfordshire Mercury. The owner of the second Elan is one Deryck Norville, who is now in the hunt for the first one...

Great news that Deryck Norville has tracked down the Lotus Elan from the colour Rigg episodes and intends restoring it to its original condition. I wish him all the best with his search for the earlier white Elan from the black and white episodes. Still the Big cat Jaguar from The New Avengers surfaced eventually, so there's always some hope.

"one of the first British shows picked up and shown in the USA by American networks." One of the first, or the first? Was Richard Greene's Adventures of Robin Hood networked?

yeah, it was was....CBS PICKED up the series in late september 1955.....series was shot in 35mm...with slots for commercials (U.S.) ran for what, 145 episodes ?

I remember seeing it on TV....and the only thing I didn't like about it, was the theme song...ugh......

I do believe it was the first UK series picked up for U.S. broadcast...

I've never got around to checking in detail, but I think that "The Vise" was picked up by ABC before CBS got "... Robin Hood". I've got a long term background project about the history of ITC (and ITP before it) underway, and it's one of the things that I want to get to the bottom of. But there British pilots being shot for series to be made in the US at the very start of the 1950s.

All the best

Andrew
