John Steed in Series 5 (1967–8) Page 1

Charcoal chalk stripe suit

He wears a single-breasted 3-piece woollen charcoal suit with a white chalk stripe, widely spaced. The jacket is fastened with three hard buttons (the lowest is left undone) & has a notch collar, finished with two slanted flapped waist pockets; there is no breast pocket. The skirt has two vents for ease of movement. Worn with black Chelsea boots. This suit appears in about 1/3 of the series.

Worn with:

Midnight blue tuxedo

He wears a midnight blue tuxedo with black satin notch collar and piping on the trouser legs. The jacket is fastened with a single cloth covered button and the skirt has two long vents. It’s worn with a ruffled pale blue dress shirt, deep midnight blue velvet bow tie and black dress shoes.

Worn in:

Purple tuxedo

He wears a purple silk tuxedo with velvet upper collar. The lower collar appears to have a marble pattern, but it may just be the lighting. The jacket is fastened with a single cloth covered button and the skirt has two long vents. It’s worn with a ruffled pink dress shirt, purple velvet bow tie and black dress shoes.

A great disappointment to everyone, especially the wardrobe mistress, this garish suit was only ever worn in:

Brown and green check blazer

He wears a single-breasted sports blazer with a green and brown tartan pattern; it has small, flap covered, pockets on the left breast and each hip, fastened with bone buttons. The jacket is fastened with three bone buttons & has a notch collar. The skirt has two vents above which is a small ‘belt’; under the yoke is a large pleat to allow the wearer complete freedom of movement. It’s normally worn with black and white houndstooth trousers, a light khaki shirt, green waistcoat and dark green and bronze tie, brown bowler hat, black umbrella, and brown suede Chelsea boots.

This is Steed’s favourite outfit, and appears in half of episodes of series 5. He wears a similar blazer with buttonless pockets and a single low dark waist button in series 6.

Worn with:
