infamous and overated, despite wonderful guest performance from the diabolical mastermind.

plot was goood...the problem, especially in the States, was Emma and her outfit
as the queen of sin. at the time, it was shocking....but view today, tamed ..

I don't know if the episode suffered from similar attitudes in the UK, but ABC
in the States, felt it was too naughty....

One of my favorites.

I'm not sure why some folks don't like this one. The plot is a little muddled, but Emma steals the show as Queen of Sin. We didn't get this one in the US, so I didn't know about it until I bought all of the box sets for all Avengers series.

I think the episode has its highlights and some fine performances: for example, the scene in which Steed goes through the trials in order to become a member of the Hellfire Club. Nevertheless, I find it overall to be rather tedious for my taste.

re watching it, the other night, it's puzzling to wonder what the shouting about the episode, was all about....and how it was banned by ABC, for U.S. broadcast...yet the episode was screened for ABC execs at their annual get togethers...

but for the time frame, it was rather darling...and suggested....but years later, it still holds up well..in my opinion.

As I said in the "worst episode" thread, "A Touch of Brimstone" leaves me cold and doesn't feel like The Avengers to me, its gleeful sadism is too unleavened by any true wit. Which is a shame as I absolutely love Peter Wyngarde in everything else he's done on TV and film (that survives). Even "Epic".

1/10. Style without substance - brutality without charm.

more or less...many fans find the episode..simply ' eye candy '..and remember back when it was first aired..it had that specter of ooh la la...and it originally being banned by ABC, for American Broadcast, only added to it's reputation ..I originally first saw it yrs later, when A & E put the series out on VHS..
