That Beryl Marston was one of the last gasps of Southern Television, who had already lost their IBA franchise before it was even shown.

The incoming franchise holder, TVS, had a policy of "everything new" and didn't take over anything from Southern. Sadly TBM went the same way as Out of Town and Worzel Gummidge.

Interesting casting of Jonathon Morris as Gareth's son, there is a certain resemblance even before he got the curly hair he later sported in Doctor Who and Bread. I was always surprised his career just seemed to stop in the early 2000s as he was slated for great things, and is certainly lively here.

With Lewis Fiander in the first episode too, we've got multi-episode co-stars of the 3rd, 4th and 5th Doctor Whos! Two allies and a villain (who pretended to be an ally).

Gareth got a round of applause for one of his bits of "business" with a bunch of flowers. He was naturally funny (as we occasionally see with Mike Gambit) and it's a shame he didn't get more sitcoms, instead of those silly instant coffee adverts with Diane Keen.

so true about Gareth...and it's easy to see, that he was a very good actor...as for not getting more sitcoms, etc...well it might have boiled down to what his agent could have drummed up..there was a period, where he sorta fell out of favor, and off the casting radar, so to speak.

One of the comments said he had a steaming hangover that morning. I think he did great!

Yes, Gambit is good at joking with Purdey; I like when he tries to get her out of bed in one episode!
