I was thinking about the ' MOTHER ' character..as he was suggested by the american network, ABC....and eventually, might have been interesting if Mrs. Peel, returned to the fold, replacing ' mother '...
I'm wondering if the New Avengers made it to a third or fourth season,
Steed would have been 'promoted' to that position.

You could argue that Steed was already one part old-Steed one part Mother-role by the time of The New Avengers.
