This episode reminds me an episode of the WWW " Man eating house".
In this episode West and Gordon are prisoners in a house that eats humans...

Just watched again… probably 25 years since last viewing. It is not a favourite.
One observation with this episode is that it is favoured by being black and white vs if it had been in a colour season. The ‘trifid’ prop did not look overly plastic but am sure a colour transmission would have made it look very fake!
“agreeable, well-rounded, and a little on the flinty side”; some say “venerable, devious, and a little ambivalent”

Watched this episode the other night, I'm always taken with how genuinely horrific the Man-Eater's final assault on the house is. There's a really wonderfully nasty to edge to a lot of the more overtly horrific flourishes in Season 4 in general but it really jumps out in this episode.
