Re: Joanna and the Gurkhas

If you nip down to central London right now (10am) you will see Joanna campaigning for the Gurkhas being able to stay in the UK. All the dross they let stay in this country(most of whom live on my estate) and they won't let people who fought valiantly for this country to stay here! Just sums up our...

I read it that the rules for citizenship are set out not in UK law but by the EU, but I'm no expert... Seems very unlikely, as EU countires set their own rules for citizenship, like Estonia (Eesti) which refuses to let its large Russian minority gain citizenship (even if born there) until they pass...

Re: The Music of the Avengers, from Dankworth to Johnson

Wouldn't the A side be 'We Have All The Time in The World' which is the love song/ theme from OHMSS? This soundtrack is without doubt my favourite of all soundtracks. Yes, you're right because it was sold on the back of the Guinness advert which used that song (What a Wonderful World is still my fa...

Re: The Music of the Avengers, from Dankworth to Johnson

That was without doubt the best post on this forum so far. I entirely agree. I would just sub Thunderball with OHMSS ... Why thank you. I blush at such praise. The OHMSS theme doesn't come to mind immediately; I'll have to give it another whirl. It's an instrumental, I think I got it as the ...

Once a week would be okay, though I couldn't make every week; but it would mean that when some of us do find a spare weekend, there is something going on rather than missing a "once per month" event! We can just dip in and out. And sometimes it might be an episode I'm bored of (sacrilege!).

Personally I prefer Howard Blake's music... helped make the atmosphere of my favourite era, and went onto such greats as "The Moon Stallion" and "Flash Gordon"!

Peter Peel being played by Patrick Macnee (inter alia) is just a little joke, I think - a humorous wink at the audience that is not meant to be taken seriously.

After all, before this episode we didn't even know Mrs Peel was a "merry widow" rather than a gay divorcee!

[Clemens said that he wrote Mother to add the right kind of Avengers humour, labelled "Chelsea wit/humour" that he felt that Blackman and Rigg had but Thorson didn't. He didn't think that she couldn't be funny, just that she couldn't do Avengers funny. Or something like that. Well that's ...
