But to answer the "question" more directly, there is noise reduction but I doubt it was intentional. I think it's just a "symptom" of the bit rate reduction that was done. Bitrates for the episode "The Fear Merchants": UK Blu Ray: 22.5 mbps, file size: 8.64 gb, frame r...

Just did a comparison between my US series 5 BluRay and the new UK:

Picture is much sharper - less (or no?) noise reduction on the UK release. The US is much softer. Fabric details especially pop.

Just received notice from Amazon.co.uk that mine has shipped (UK -> US). Final price was £41.48 + £3 shipping. I have Amazon prime, not sure if that affects the shipping price, which is quite reasonable either way.

OK, I've just purchased the new UK blu ray set. Two questions; since I haven't purchased a blu ray player yet, and I reside in the USA, do I need a certain kind of player to play it? Next question: what extras, if any, are exclusive to this blu ray release? You'll need a region free blu-ray player....

Someone asked for some screenshots: here are a few from the first 3 episodes - here's a little album with half a dozen: http://imgur.com/a/xvwaP Click on the little gear in the upper right of each image to see "full resolution". I particularly like this one :). Ignoring Ms. Rigg's stunnin...

Optimum should work on it, and make them widescreen 1.75:1 too (the ratio they were shot for). I know you've posted test comparison shots to show that, but I am sure that it would be a controversial decision, if taken. Best to leave them as transmitted or thereabouts. Any hint as to what thread tha...

but even then... Very soft. I wonder if this is as good as it gets... i.e. could the film negs just not be that sharp? Watching more episodes, I'm noticing a couple things: 1) The DP's focus was very inconsistent from scene to scene, often just a tad out of focus in one, then much better in the ver...

Very little detail, and soft.

Thanks though for the grabs, wibblewobble. :)
You might be right, but it's a HUGE improvement over the DVDs I have... comparison:
