Alan Hayes (The Avengers Declassified, Avengers on the Radio) has identified the actor playing Frank Preston in Hunt the Man Down as Nicholas Selby. The episode and all the cross-over cast pages have been updated accordingly.

Alan Hayes (The Avengers Declassified, Avengers on the Radio) has contacted me to correct a few minor misdemeanors on the website as well as to add to the Transport Guide. I suggest you check out his sites for much new blood in the world of The Avengers. Alan has amassed a great deal of research about the original broadcast dates, which I will be correcting on my pages as needed.

Peter Singer has tipped me off that the 1940s sedan driven by Humbert Green in Legacy of Death is a Ford Tudor Sedan, maybe the Deluxe.

I also finally noticed that a bunch of New Avengers images went missing during my short outage and they've finally been restored. Apologies for the inconvenience.

I'm currently poring over the John Bates : Fashion Designer book and hope to update the fashions guide soon. I've also been in touch with a contact of Alun Hughes and hope to expand his fashion details as well.

On the tech front, I'm mulling over deploying moo.fx to the site - let's call it a pipe dream for now...

Jens has also reminded me to add the fact that the iron maiden from Castle D'eath also appears in the Little Storping museum in Murdersville. I'm sure I've noticed it somewhere else as well - in the black museum in Fog, perhaps.

• Hot Snow receives a new mugshot for Alister Williamson (DS Wilson), as well as having a bit of copy cleaned up.
• Brought to Book also features Williamson, as well as Neil McCarthy (Bart), also updated from an episode of The Saint.
• Nightmare has been updated - This Sporting Life furnishes a mugshot for Michael Logan (Commander Reece) and episodes of The Saint supply Robert Sansom (Dr Miller) and a new mugshot for Robert Bruce (Dr Brown).
• Dance with Death has had Angela Douglas (Beth) updated, from another episode of The Saint.
• Dead of Winter gets a more contemporary mugshot for Carl Duering (Schneider), also from an episode of The Saint.

It's not just Keel either, Tara King gets a look-in:

• Billy Liar ("London's a very big place, Mr Shadrack") and Oh! What a Lovely War! confirm that George Ghent is the taxi driver and an episode of The Saint confirms that Reg Whitehead plays the chief guard and Anthony Sheppard plays Perova in They Keep Killing Steed.
• Game and Super Secret Cypher Snatch now have complete episode descriptions rather than short synopses, and new continuity errors.

In other news, mugshots for Susan Castle (Hunt the Man Down) and Astor Sklair (Hot Snow) have been added, and characters mentioned in Dave Rogers' episode descriptions which weren't billed in TV Times have been added to the affected episodes.

* David K Smith points out that it's not quite Helvetica Narrow but agrees with me that it's definitely not Impact. I've seen it used in books printed in the Sixties but never seen a decent printer's typesetting description to verify the correct name of the fount (as we used to spell it).

• Square Root of Evil (body counts, what happened to the diabolical masterminds and who rescued whom).
• Avengers Timeline (archival status of the episodes, which regular cast members appeared, season number and episode number). Available in widescreen and print-friendly.

In other news, Jenna Clayton contributes more continuity errors for both The Town of No Return and The Winged Avenger, while Nigel Wassell updates us on the trains in A Funny Thing Happened... on the Way to the Station.

Something I've been meaning to do for a while... all the Emma Peel episodes have been given their own folders in the site hierarchy, so any bookmarks you have will need to be changed:

• Season 4 URLs have changed from (say) 401.html to emmabw/401.html
• Season 5 URLs have changed from (say) 501.html to emmacol/501.html

All the crew lists have been updated and corrected, including cross-over appearance icons, for all three seasons covered herein. New code has also been added to the Tara King episodes to slightly improve the layout, hopefully you won't notice.

Oh, did I forget to say? I finally got around to rewriting the brain-dead Websearch 1.11 so that the search results were actually informative. A recent email from a WebTV user indicates this site might be inaccessible to them, so I added a new link on the front coming straight here without playing with the television - let me know if it works! If any of the rest of the site fails, be sure to let me know - I use a fair few scripts which might be unsupported by set-top boxes.

The About Us page has been corrected and updated, but not so you'd notice...

First of the new breed - Mission... Highly Improbable has been updated with DVD captures replacing the grainy VHS captures - I'll get to the fashions and props in a day or so. I've also standardised the layout a bit, and all the existing Season Five episodes have had the javascript update done to them.

Please note Jan says they're quite expensive to make, and quoted the figure of 1490 DM (750 Euros) for a fully functional, ready to go car (incl. RC and batteries) - do your own currency conversion (I recommend using Xenon Labs Universal Currency Convertor).

To my mind the colour is too silvery, not enough blue, and the rear wheel look a little sunk into their arches, but I'm sure you could raise these issues with Jan.

Also noted that David K. Smith has also received correspondence from Canal+ - he and I seem to be the only webmaster who update regularly enough to have noticed the letter.

A bit of better news - Mike Cheyne let me know that the hired muscle in A Funny Thing Happened on the Way to the Station was called 'Georgie' by the conductor, so that page, plus the relevant Villains page and the Extras.

In other news, I've publicly unveiled my Supporting Cast page, but it's very incomplete and downright ugly towards the end.
Any day now I'll finish it and the Props section.

Also, I've noticed that The Avengers Forever! has recently updated with a history of the show in Germany, that puts the second half run of the colour Mrs Peel episodes in 1969 rather than 1968. I'm sticking with Stefan's timeline for now, until something more definite turns up. So, there's a minor update to the Intercrime page.

Otherwise, I've made a few corrections to The £50,000 Breakfast page and the Motor Cars Guide - I noticed two cars were incorrectly reported for that episode.
Also, the Intercrime page has the Spanish episode titles, as discovered on David K. Smith's "The Avengers Forever!" site.

The pop-up continues to dog me - IE users will just have to get used to lots of windows appearing, as windowvar.close() doesn't behave properly in IE. Again, any assistance offered is gratefully received.

Slight Addendum:
The pop-up sizes correctly the first time you see it in IE4/5, but will not resize afterwards. Nor can one use a focus event on a window in IE. Anyone know a workaround?

I've not stopped at just text updates either, although the graphic ones won't be obvious - I've replaced 18 images and added 15 new ones, generally smaller version of large images for use as inline graphics.

On top of that, I've made a few changes to the pages for From Venus With Love and Escape In Time - the same actor plays Martin in the first, and the executioner in the other, but I still haven't named him. - and The £50,000 Breakfast (I've identified one of the farmhands who falls off the hay in the opening scene).

On a less obvious note, I've changed the CGI for the counters to make the site more portable, and finally updated some of the copy on the Other Episode Guides page.

The site has been registered with CJB.net, so now has the new URL of http://theavengers.cjb.net in addition to the usual one - please use it and assist this site - all links from the main page dismiss the annoying bar at the bottom.

All the links to the villains pages have been changed as well, so they go to the relevant part of the page, rather than the top. This has meant changes to the Killing Fields as well. Also, two more pictures in the Fashion Guide - the towel draped over Mrs Peel in From Venus With Love, and the green sleeveless dress worn by her in The £ 50,000 Breakfast.

Also, to make navigating your history list or bookmarks easier, the titles of pages within a section reflect their order in the hierarchy - a ": 3" representing page 3, and so on, and the episode pages are now just labelled "The Avengers : [episode name]" (e.g. The Avengers : Epic)

1612 images | 84 text | 8 bins || 1704 files

Well, all the duplicates are removed, cutting around 20 superfluous images out of the site, and all the broken links should be gone. So we're left with 1540 images (of which 372 are thumbnails and 108 are design elements), plus 75 pages of HTML, 5 scripts, 4 text files and 8 binaries. So that's a slightly more workable 1632 files, give or take a few, but it's still around the 16.5MB mark...

Updates were also made to the Master Minds (including a nod at Scotty, a correspondent from Canada, who suggested the idea) and 'Death's Door', which is now a three page document rather than a single page, as I thought it was taking too long to load. All the murderer/victim information, both in the 'Death's Door' and the Episode Guide is now linked to the Diabolical Masterminds guide.

176 new images throughout, to celebrate whatever it was we all just went through. Add to that another 55 images I've replaced, and were looking at 230 new images, and 31 new html documents. And I thought I was on holidays...
All up, the site has 1893 images (including thumbnails), 8 binaries, 4 scripts and 80 text (HTML or otherwise) files, 1985 files in all - around 16.7MB of diskspace.

I've cleaned up the continuity/trivia section of From Venus With Love, it was pretty messy.
Gabrielle Drake's persona from UFO, Lt. Gay Ellis is now pictures on the The Hidden Tiger page, along with her rôle as Angora. Updates also for Never, Never Say Die, and Epic (continuity, and other bits, now being better illustrated).

We've added an extra 259 images in less than a fortnight!

The props were also included in other pages, for From Venus With Love and The Winged Avenger.

Elsewhere, Steve Lefebvre from Belgium has brought a couple of continuity errors to my notice, and I spotted a couple more when viewing the episodes in question: Murdersville has the infamous chameleon catsuit, The Bird Who Knew Too Much has a vanishing Lotus Elan and wandering sculpture, and The Winged Avenger shares that sculpture with the preceding episode.

I've also re-split this page; and changed the plimsoll line on the Episode Guide - it gauges popularity by the thousands now, and the first episode is still too popular for the indicator.

In other news, I've digitised new images from the first 9 episodes, and will put up the new content by week's end.

We've just borrowed someone's AV Mac, so expect to see all the gaps in the Fashion Guide, as well as the Killing Fields and the Cars, filled in the next few days.

Spell checked the entire site... it's all much better now.

I've also put all the lower pages into a dynamic frameset, rather than relying on multiple frame documents. This would only be of interest to the geeks out there.

More corrections from Joseph, detailing interesting trivia and continuity errors in Return of the Cybernauts, as well as amendments to the cars in that episode, and in From Venus With Love, The Fear Merchants and Death's Door, meaning more updates to the Motor Cars Guide.

Oh, and a bit of website trivia for you - this site now has 494 images throughout its pages (60 of them), and uses up almost exactly 10Mb of disk space.

I've also added a few more car images to the Motor Cars Guide (we'll, replaced the existing ones with better images) and I've updated the number plate for Gilbert's Humber Super Snipe in The Fear Merchants.

All the pages of the Episode Guide are now up to date with the new cars information also.

I've also added a new image of Tara's AC428 from The Forget-Me-Knot, and the veteran taxi from the end of Escape in Time to the Motor Cars Guide. The taxi picture affords a good view of Mrs Peel's silk outfit from Escape in time, so it's been added to the Fashion Guide at the appropriate spot.

I've also made another change to the Mrs Peel... We're Needed! page, a short (and somewhat sketchy) section on The Minikillers, and a shorter section on On Her Majesty's Secret Service.

I've also completed the new version of the Cars Guide - but they're not incorporated in the latest Episode Guide yet.

Oh, and I fixed a couple of broken image links, and put the "next" and "previous" links at toe top of each episode page as well as the bottom.

Added a link to the Top 5 page to the navigation header, and regenerated the All episodes in one page, and its ASCII text version (Everything except the reviews in both copies).

Oh, and I replaced the "6-10" buttons, they're more like what I really wanted now - it's hard to get things just right at this size.

Also changed the stamp on the envelope on the About Us page. It's now a picture from our wedding album.

Oh yes, and I've finally got around to splitting this page up.

Also fixed a few bits of the episode guide (the pages above, plus Epic and Something Nasty..) and cleaned up all my messy bits of HTML throughout the site. Some of those episode pages... crikey.

Oh, and I've discarded the cookie altogether now.

Replaced a few more of the (large) episode images with more compressed versions - saved another 270k of disk space.
