What's New?

4 July 2001

No holiday in Australia, and maybe the last update at progsoc. All the episode pages in the Episode Guide have been altered to have a sliding, floating DHTML menu, rather than the old pop-up "remote control", so there are no more pop-ups on the site, bar the image enlargements.

Sorry about all that, it won't happen again. Sorry also to those of you still labouring with old browsers, you won't get the DHTML menu at all; not that you need it of course.

2 July 2001

We are on the move!
Any time now we'll be moving to a new URL: http://www.cybercontrol.org/avengers/ giving us freedom to expand and develop - we've felt the pinch here a while. We'll probably open for business in a week or so, depending on work constraints. (Not that we're in any rush...) A new fashion guide for Season Four is under development, but as it includes Steed as well as Emma it'll end up being 10 pages long, so may not be up immediately after the move as hoped.

Regular contributor Abyssinia has identified Moran from Death at Bargain Prices as bit-part player Arthur Gross, and I just noticed the most amazing costume continuity error in The Town of No Return.

14 June 2001

DVD WARNING The Contender release of "The Definitive Dossier" is missing scenes and has encoding problems on some players - don't buy them until they're re-released later this year. Dossier 2 has been put back in the schedule until the problems are fixed. Read all about it at David K. Smith's 'Avengers Forever!' site.

Oh, and yes, my birthday yesterday was excellent, thank you. A bottle of Pol Roger and a seafood dinner topped it off nicely (Piers).

5 June 2001

Frank Elrick (The Bird Who Knew Too Much) has been identified as Patrick McGoohan's long-time stunt double Frank Maher - he also appears in You Have Just Been Murdered.

4 June 2001

We celebrate the coming of June with new images in the Fashion Guide - 19 in all, 9 being improved and ten brand new, (replacing 5 discarded images), so we've 5 more illustrations. Pages 1 [lilac suit & silk pyjamas], 2 [blue jacket and white cap, stripy dress, orange silk outfit & purple catsuit], 4 [blue and pink catsuit, yellow suit & black catsuit], and 5 [orange catsuit] get new images, pages 3, 6, and 7 get other fixes.
That'll be all for now until August, but look for updates to the Episode guide

30 May 2001

Nicholas Green of NTL Group Limited has written to inform me that www.play247.com has the Avengers Region 2 Boxed sets for only £17.99, and free postage to anywhere in Europe. Don't get too excited though - they only post to European countries, so this information's only good for our Euro-cousins.

29 May 2001

The rest of the new Season Four mugshots are up, covering episodes 17 to 26 (The Girl from Auntie to Honey for the Prince), as well as finalising The Killing Fields of Season Four, page 2 and The Diabolical Masterminds guide, page 4:4 and page 4:5 A total of 242 of them, including 12 enlargements for the major villains, 18 all-new never before seen faces and a couple of corrections. Add to that 3 new trivia images for The Danger Makers, another 3 for The Girl From Auntie (two of which serve double time for The Thirteenth Hole as well), plus one each for How to Succeed at Murder and The Quick-Quick Slow Death (which also appear in each other's pages), and we're looking at 250 new images for the site.

25 May 2001

Our friends at Blackstar.co.uk have a great pre-order deal on Contender's Region 2 DVD release of The Avengers 1967 Box 1 - £20.33 instead of £22.59 : click here for the details .

14 May 2001

Thanks again to Stephen Brooke (AKA Abyssinia), the actor playing Dr Palmer in The Gravediggers has been identified as Aubrey Richards, and I think Moran in Death at Bargain Prices just might be Alex Scott (who turns up again as Martin Trasker in Too Many Christmas Trees). Both actors appeared in "Game", which is beyond the current scope of this site, but is covered at David's The Avengers Forever! site

7 May 2001

New mugshots, replacing all of those for episodes 11-16 of Season Four mean updates to those pages as well as the Diabolical Masterminds Guide, page 4:2 & page 4:3 and the Killing Fields page 4:1 & page 4:2. A total of 153, including 5 new enlargements for the major villains and 28 brand new, never before shown images, and one mugshot dropped. Add to that the replacement of four continuity pictures for The Man-eater of Surrey Green, the intro picture to The Master Minds and a new trivia image for Too Many Christmas Trees and one episode illustration dropped, and we have 159 new images throughout the site. All the dodgy links for transport, villains and kills for Season four are fixed as well.

2 May 2001

More trivia from Stephen Brooke for Epic, From Venus With Love and The Winged Avenger.

1 May 2001

A Glorious May Day to you, comrades! How's that M1 protest going then?

Thanks to Stephen Brooke, the executioner in Escape in time has been correctly identified as Terry Plummer - I had no idea he was such a tubby. Elsewhere, I've fixed some image size errors in Epic, The Fear Merchants and Never, Never Say Die, and corrected my mistake about Sue Lloyd / Suzanne Lloyd.

26 April 2001

I was going to wait until all 26 episodes of Season Four were done, but I can wait no longer. The mugshots of Season Four (episodes 1 to 10) have been replaced, meaning there are 219 new images in the episode guide, with 45 of them being additions rather than replacements.

Add to this the finally-unveiled Diabolical Masterminds Guide incorporating Season Four and we're talking an extra six pages of content and another 179 images in the masterminds guide. Watch this space-> <-for more updates! (That's a joke, son).

11 April 2001

Looking back over Season Four, we discovered a few preposterously large images, which have now been replace or repaired to bring them down to a reasonable size. All but three episodes were affected, with 36 images and their thumbnails changing. Expect to see more of this, as 411k were saved in the process.
Addendum: Two updates in one day! Another 33 images have been optimised for Season Four, saving another 107k. Past here it's not really worth doing, so I'll stop. Only Quick-Quick Slow Death and What the Butler Saw remain unaffected.

1 April 2001

"Happy April Fools' Day!", and another update. Episodes 13 to 25 of Season 5 (A Funny Thing.. to The Forget-Me-Knot) getting new thumbnails and enlarged images, with a few brand new pictures for good measure; and we've trimmed a slender 75k off the site in the process. I've just noticed we never did the Diabolical Masterminds for Season Four, so that'll probably be the next update before I get to the Props Department or the final few fashion images for pages 1 to 5 of the Fashion Guide (and then there's a fashion guide for Season Four, and Steed's suits...)

28 March 2001

Page 6 of the Fashion Guide is now completely reworked with DVD captures, but with many of the old files being small, and adding two new images, I've actually increased disk usage slightly. Oh well, it's better for the viewer so I'm happy with that.
Consequently, Something Nasty in the Nursery, Who's Who???, Return of the Cybernauts and Dead Man's Treasure have all been updated as well. What else? Who's Who??? has had links to the Ministry goons' enlargements fixed, and a bunch of disused images were cleared away.

25-6 March 2001

New images for page 6 and page 8 of the Fashion Guide, but not many. Page 8 gets a decent view of the pale pink dress from Mission... Highly Improbable, and page 6 gets new images of the red coat from Return of the Cybernauts and the orange one from Death's Door. Also, I've canned a poor quality image and replaced with an almost identical one from the fashion guide, for You Have Just Been Murdered

23 March 2001

A whole bunch of updates today, stemming from new images for page 7 of the Fashion Guide. Cast corrections for Murdersville and The Correct Way to Kill, a trivia revision for Something Nasty in the Nursery, and then I ran my script for fixing images sizes and pop-up windows, and that updated 11 files, and the fashion images spilled over into new images for Death's Door, Dead Man's Treasure and You Have Just Been Murdered.

Anything else? Oh yes, the total for the number of images on the Home page are correct - the Killing Fields have 520 images, 219 being repeats of the 301 that are in the guide. The Episode guide has 1707 unique images, but including repetitions there are 2200. Include the 2112 images used for rating the Season 5 episodes, and the Blackstar video images and there are a monumental 4577. The Fashion Guide consists of 210 images, some of which turn up in the episode guide (plus 40 blackstar images). The props have a hefty 674 images (714 all up). By contrast, the diabolical masterminds hold a light weight 136 (141), and the internationalists a measly 10 (15).

21 March 2001

All of the episodes have had their Dutch titles and TX added, you can see it in more succinct form on the Intercrime page.

19 March 2001

Minor corrections to Return of the Cybernauts and Death's Door, the drinks of Who's Who???, plus the re-uploading of all the content from the 13th that went strangely missing puts us back on track. We apologise for any inconvenience...

15 March 2001

As promised (well, sort of...) work has commenced on the Fashion Guide - page 8 has all-new images, and one was replaced on page 5. A total of 19 new images, 18 of them being replacements of existing ones. A saving of 120K on only 18 images and I added one - we're looking at making over a meg free for new content if this keeps up.

13 March 2001

New images from the DVDs for A Funny Thing..., Something Nasty..., The Joker, Who's Who??? and Return of the Cybernauts; including an additional 32 images overall (more continuity and trivia, pics, plus extra mugshots and closeups, but fewer intro/outro images).
The standardised look of the site is complete for now - I need to order more DVDs to continue. Given the state of the Australian Dollar, that won't be any time soon. The sooner we're rid of Howard the better... However, that will give me the chance to improve the images in the Fashion Guide and cut down on file sizes, (I'm saving about 30-50k per episode, while adding an average of 6-7 pictures, so replacing all the grainy old captures will save me several meg, and let me add extra new content, like Steed's fashions, actual shots of the cars in each episode, and so on.)

5 March 2001

New images from the DVD for Death's Door mean an extra five new images (actually, nine new images, but I discarded four old ones) and replacement mugshots, and enlargements for the Diabolical Masterminds. I didn't mention it, but on Friday the old /dead and /alive directories were combined into /cast5, requiring the renaming of one file. I was sick of trying to remember which folder different mugshots were in.

23 February 2001

A bit a detective work has payed off - another couple of extras have been identified.
Billy Cornelius plays Martin in From Venus with Love and Executioner in Escape in time, along with a few other appearances.

22 February 2001

More DVD updating, this time for The £50,000 Breakfast, including the addition of 18 new mugshots (and six closeups) of unbilled extras, plus the replacement of 32 others, and some corrections to the cast and transport used.
Amendments and corrections to A Funny Thing.., Who's Who??? and Mission ... Highly Improbable.

Oh, did I forget to say? I finally got around to rewriting the brain-dead Websearch 1.11 so that the search results were actually informative. If you use the Box of Tricks page, the results will show you a selected part of the page (about 220 characters) with your search terms in BOLD, CAPITALISED TEXT.

19 February 2001

Following the success of the larger mugshots, I've updated the mugshots for The Positive Negative Man, Murdersville, Mission ... Highly Improbable and The Forget-me-knot; this has of course meant updates for Diabolical Masterminds and The Killing Fields.

15 February 2001

Order The Avengers - Kinky Boot Collection (1 and 2) on video from Blackstar here: Vol. 1 Vol. 2

13 February 2001

Both Dead Man's Treasure and You Have Just Been Murdered have had their images replaced with DVD captures, and starting with them the mugshots are increasing in size by 25% (to 50x50). The image quality I'm compressing them to is higher as well, so everything's a lot clearer now. This had meant updates to page 4 and page 5 of the Diabolical Masterminds guide, plus a small change to Murdersville.

12 February 2001

The Dutch information from Hendrikus' excellent "De Wrekers" site on the Intercrime page has been spell-checked and corrected, thanks to Hendrikus noticing my errors. I've also added the channel information which I previously overlooked, and spelt Hendrikus' name properly.

A link to Liz Eggleston's Emma Peel site has also been added to the Little Wonders page.

6-7 February 2001

The Intercrime page has been updated with Dutch information from Hendrikus' excellent "De Wrekers" site, and the whole page reworked to look more like a spreadsheet. I've also cleaned up the Episode Guide main page.

2 February 2001

Kim Howard has pointed me in the right direction and I've identified Steed's car at the end of The Cybernauts as a Talbot 16hp from 1909. (Talbots were derived from the Gallic lines of the Darracq, the 1909 16hp being the first of their cars entirely built in Britain, previous models having coachwork and mechanicals from French manufacturers; so it's no wonder I thought it was a Renault). Of course, this means every single page of the Transport Guide had to be updated as well.

I've also updated the Other Episode guides page, with a bit more information on how chilled your champagne should be.

30 January 2001

Further to the WebTV problems - it's definitely the pop-up image window causing the error, so I've changed the script slightly, let me know if this fixes it!

25 January 2001

The Positive-Negative Man has had its images and mugshots replaced with crisp, clean DVD captures. Death's Door, I've noticed, had a broken image following changes to Mission ... Highly Improbable, so that's fixed.

I notice this morning we've had 150,000 visitors, thank you all for dropping by and supporting the site.

A recent email from a WebTV user indicates this site might be inaccessible to them, so I added a new link on the front coming straight here without playing with the television - let me know if it works! If any of the rest of the site fails, be sure to let me know - I use a fair few scripts which might be unsupported by set-top boxes.

The About Us page has been corrected and updated, but not so you'd notice...

18 January 2001

Murdersville has been updated with new images, and the addition of ten more mugshots for all the random villagers. Seeing the DVD revealed two extra cars which the broadcast masters had had cut, and I added the helicopter too.
Also updated was the last page of Diabolical Masterminds. So too, the Search page but not so you'd notice.

16 January 2001

The Forget-Me-Knot has been updated with new images and a new colour scheme for that page only, reflecting its status as part of the Tara King era.

New images for some of Mrs Peel's clothes from Mission .... Highly Improbable, more to come.

2 January 2001

Happy New Year to all our readers, we hope you had a good holiday.

First of the new breed - Mission... Highly Improbable has been updated with DVD captures replacing the grainy VHS captures - I'll get to the fashions and props in a day or so. I've also standardised the layout a bit, and all the existing Season Five episodes have had the javascript update done to them.
