yeah, over the years, I've read countless tales of issues with George, the overall production of OHMSS, director Peter Hunt, Diana, etc....George, was a perfect example, of letting stardom, go to his head..He wasn't a bad actor, just rough around the edges...and if he wasn't such a jackass, he might have proved to be a decent 007, especially with the pending next film, Diamonds Are Forever ...Peter Hunt, certainly didn't help things, by being so aloof...with Lazenby, and the crew...Diana rigg, was chosen, due to her vast acting experience..and her potential help in showing Lazenby, the acting ropes...despite the drama on the set, Broccoli and Saltzman, Producers, offered Lazenby a new contract for 7 additional films, but George, unwisely listened to his agent, and refused the contract, as they 'felt' that BOND was now fixing to be a cultural dinosaur...in the era of free love, and doing one's thing. BAD CAREER move..Lazenby unofficially got black balled in the industry from walking away from the Bond Franchise...which was sad, but he brought it on himself....Joanne, did indeed, have a very tiny part...but she also went on to evolve as a actor..and eventually ended up in the NEW AVENGERS.....THINKING back to OHMSS, it is a great film, probably my favorite Bond film, right up there with Craig's debut in Casino....I was picturing connery in OHMSS..would of been a different film.....and set the stage for DAF....as the film turn a left turn into the comical bond ....(mr.wint and mr.kidd etc) and set the stage for the roger Moore era .....I saw OHMSS, when it opened in Detroit, just before XMAS 1969...and I did like it...despite somewhat wooden acting of Lazenby..Anticlockwise wrote:I just saw OHMSS for the first time and was amazed by how small a part she played. So true it is amazing she evolved into an Avenger.mousemeat wrote:Frankymole wrote:I just hope that shotgun she was blasting off at the clay pigeons (and later, an actual miscreant) was a Purdey
So good to see her kicking arse! "Get the bastard!" That's my Purdey.
she's a handful....she has come a long ways from that tiny part in OHMSS...I wonder if she has any memories of the film, and/or/Lazenby/Rigg..
ironic years later, she followed Gale, Peel, King, as a member of the 'avengers'
After reading about how miserable it was to work with Lazenby on set, I can't
imagine what any of them went through working with a man who had absolutely no prior acting experience and did not want to learn either.
There's a report on Joanna's reaction to the honour here:Rhonda wrote:"I'm a girl, I'm a girl!" insists Purdey in ' ... Tiger by the Tale'.
Well I'm happy to just hear in the news on Tony Blackburn's 'Sounds of the 60's' show that, Joanna Lumley, you're also now - A Dame. Congratulations!

Well-deserved.
The ITV piece says "Lumley has two Baftas under her belt for her performance in Ab Fab, and in 2000 she claimed the Special Award for her work in The New Avengers." That seems a bit late?

interesting...thanks for providing that link..
If I remember correctly, the special award was a joint one for Honor, Diana, Linda and Joanna. The timing does seem a bit weird though. Maybe it was linked to the series 40th anniversary?Frankymole wrote:Well-deserved.

Dame Joanna was in The Goodies 'Big Ben Theory' 2019 audio. I think its well worth a listen and I liked her "Comrade Lumley to you!" line. She was just the right guest, from the era of The Goodies, and listening to it you can't help miss the late Tim Brooke-Taylor.
